Question Collecting Trident Maple Seeds

I know nothing about collecting seeds from trees. There is a huge Trident Maple in my neighborhood and I am wondering what the best time to collect seeds would be. Fall? I collected some last week and they look so small and pathetic and green.

Your pretty lucky to have a trident maple growing in your neighborhood! I dont know much about collecting seeds either but Japanese maples produce seeds in the fall and its not time to collect them until they start falling of the tree naturally, I picked some of my tree and ofcourse they didnt germinate.

just wait till they start falling. I have a red and some type of japanese maple in my yard that started to drop their seeds about 2 weeks ago. i just picked a few off the ground and almost all of them germinated in 3 days.
Good luck,
Tom

Yeah it was cool to find one growing in the "wild". I think its the only one in my town. Ill wait untill fall to collect some seeds, this makes sense. Ill definitely try some cuttings also Japanese Maples are in front of every bank, shopping center, etc., so Im on the lookout for these seeds as well.
