The instructions were pretty general. 15 trees have survived so far

That's not bad, I couldn't get any of mine to sprout. Any helpful ideas would be great.

I've bought a heated propergation unit from garden express, will let you know how it goes. 3 days so far. I also invested in some mini tree tube thingies. transplanting out of the seedling trays was bad. even now the seedlings don't look healthy.

Hey there,
I am actually growing some myself for the first time. I have a heated germination station that I got off the internet as well as some seed starting medium. Here is what I did and I am starting to see some success. Mix the medium with some water and planted the seeds about an inch down in the medium in a seedling cell pack. Then get some zip lock freezer bags large enough to put the seedling packs into. Zip them up to keep the humidity and put them in your refridgerator (not freezer) for about 2 months. This will recreate "winter" for these little guys. Then, take the packs out of the fridge and put them into the heated germination station. You should start seeing some growth in a couple of weeks after that. Good luck. |

well the first seedlings are coming up now. I noticed on the japanese maple tray, that I've got some fungal problems starting. so today I'll leave the tops off the trays and mist with camomile tea (Trust me that really does work) I'll take some pics tomorrow
