Birch & Trunk Chop

How does birches respond to a trunk chop. When should I performe this? Does it bud back if I cut to 5cm over the root base? I have read that birches don't like much cutting, that's why I asked.

Prepare yourself for a lot of basal shoots and die back. You would probably want to thread graft and establish a new leader well before you cut back.

Regards,

Matt

Thanks Matt! I will try to graft a leader first and then cut it. Good thing that I asked before trying it out myself=)
