Question Air Layering Roots

Since I have never air layered anything before, I would like to know how before I try. So, how do you air layer, so that the roots become visible?? Also, does this technique only work for tropicals such as the ficus, or will it work for others?? Thanks for any help. . .

There's a pretty darn good set of instructions in the ***FAQ*** under Propagation

Some species are easier to layer than others - but layering is by no means limited to tropicals. Right now, I've got layers going on maples, hornbeams, and quince, for example. What are you thinking of trying?

There were a couple of threads on this in the past week. It would work with most tropical trees and shrubs, except maybe palms.

Exclamation Air Layering

Well I have tried it on my ficuses before, but not really with the result I wanted. I'd like to try it now with several of my quinces, orange jasmines (murraya paniculatas), and on one of my alberta spruces.

The quinces (in my experience) should be easy.

The spruce - if it's like the other conifers I've tried - will take at least a year to develop decent roots.

I don't know about the orange jasmine, but if I had to guess I'd guess it would go pretty easily.
