air layering japanese larch
hi it's me again. I have tried to air layer a japanese larch at a point about an inch thick. At the same time I tried 3 japanese maple air layers. The maples were successful, but summer is coming to an end and the larch still hasn't produced any roots. I used complete ring bark method and the area wrapped up has swollen nicely and looks like its about to root, but I don't know if the branch will die over winter if it hasn't produced the roots by then. Please advise on what to do to stop this happening.thanks byeeeeee ![]() |

As a general rule, conifers take longer to layer. Pines, for example can take a year or even two!
You might keep the layering region from freezing, other than it shouldn't be a problem. Regards, Matt
