Acacia Smallii

I am relatively new to this forum and bonsai as an art in general. I decided that I wanted to try a few different approaches, the first and most time consuming is from seed. I have 5 Acacia Smallii seedlings that are a few weeks old. For now I'm keeping them in pots and was wondering if it is ever done to grow bonsai in pots since I don't have a large yard to grow in. Second, this tree is really accessible to me and Next season I plan to try some cuttings and the "Air Layering" is an interesting proposal I'll have to look into. I harvested the seeds earlier this year myself from a parking lot filled with them. This is a native desert tree since I'm in Phoenix. Any advice for a novice? Any experience with desert trees/shrubs would be of interest to me. I'll post some pictures of my baby smallii this weekend.

At the moment, most of my trees are in pond baskets since I'm renting and might move out during the wrong season.

The big advantages of the pond baskets:
  1. it is really hard to overwater your trees
  2. they lead to very nice root ramification once the roots try to push through
  3. they are dirt cheap (a pond basket big enough for a multi trunk juniper costs me less than 1 euro)

Hope that helps,
Mike
