Tree of the Day - Monday April 4, 2005
This forum is an experiment that has evolved out of some of the activities on the bonsaischool program.
I'm going to select a bonsai each day to spark group discussion.
Don't forget - you can nominate a TREE OF THE DAY if you send your photo by email to webmasterATbonsaitalkDOTcom. Clean backgrounds and show quality trees only, please! Today's tree is a Crabapple. You can make notes with the pencil tool

This is a nice tree to start with, it has possiblities, but there is a lot to be done.
I would change the angle of the tree, like the picture suggests, thus to move the canope more over the middle of the pot. Further I would cut the left branch, to make a broom style in the tree. After this first operation, the twigs have to be cut back after the first 2 leaves. This is my thought about this tree. Wessel |

The tree is healthy and the fruit is a testament to the owner's care. I feel that the left branch should be lowered and the crown needs to fill in. The tree is too high in the pot, and the pot, while "acceptable", could be improved.
I would suggest a blue glazed container with soft lines. The virtual is the closest blue I could determine. I feel the branch in red should be considered if a shoot agrees to pop in the right place. John P.S. Hey Attila look!!! I didn't draw a pine tree. ![]()
