Today's tree is a Japanese Black Pine. You can use the pencil tool under the attachment to make notes.

The Cat's Apprentice
|
From the Wuggums-En design studios
Strengths:
Very interesting trunk line flakey old wonderful bark Well-developed nebari Weaknesses: The trunk is WAY too skinny for all that foliage, it looks lost, like a little girl trying on mommy's fur coat. The trunk is also too thin to be so tall. As the tree is today, it's message would be, "Are you sure I should be an informal upright?" It might also be saying, "Does this pot make my @$$ look fat?" Fix = Total rethink. BUNJIN, BABY! So, in my virt, I took off most of the branches, tilted the planting angle a smidge to the right, and brought those eager young branches down to give them an old feel. The top right branch is now the apex. Then gave it an appropriate pot. Of course, I have never worked with JBP, so this is all just design talk and I cannot vouch for a living tree at the end of this. It may be a 3-4 year transform. humbly submitted pootsie Last edited by pootsie : 25-Mar-2005 at 11:00 AM. |

Maybe it's time to add a JBP to your collection?

Yes,
Pootsie has done it again !!! Because of the thin trunk, I see that this is the only way to go with THIS tree. Nice work Poots. Happy Easter Everyone, Ian. |

I love the shape, and design of the original tree, but I can get past the thin trunk. I like pootsie's virtual because you'll never be able to have a convincing bonsai without good proportion. If you don't want to reduce the size drastically, then bunjin is the way to go. Good luck,
All the best, JDL |
