Beautiful bonsai, lovely in many ways, great job!

There are only a couple things that I feel could use some refinement, I have outlined these in the first photo below. I posted a poor virtual below, just to offer another view.

Again, very impressive bonsai,

Will Heath

Thumbs up

I think that the nebari / rootage and the pot & attitude of the planting is very impressive. At this point I dont see much that could be done with the shari or jin. I like the overall package very much. Well done.

great tree that looks even better in the flesh, the display as a whole looks much better framed within a photo imho though as it seemed a little lost in the corner where displayed. I seem to remember a really interesting soil surface on this that really suited the trees mountainous character. great tree!

I really like this bonsai. Naturally, I couldn't resist making a few minor changes to reflect how I would have styled it. Some minor "carving" on the trunk, removal of some upper foliage and extending some foliage pads.

Mike,
I like what you have done here. The carving on the trunk and the angular change associated with it seems to take away the one "uncomfortable" componenet of the trunk and the reduction in the foliage makes it seem perhaps more balanced in composition.

Really nice tree, with or without the changes. I was uncomfortable with the upjutting root the first few times I looked at it but it has grown on me.

Nice job Mike! The already fine tree is improved with much greater harmony with the jin flow improved/trunk line'/foliage and that 'extra' shari on top right removed. Nicely done, my .02c.

Time to own up,it's my tree, many thanks to everyone who's replied, very good critiques, and i must say that you've all got it about right.I tried to make the soil surface look like a cliff top, which you cant really see to well. The best part of showing this tree was a old woman(not a bonsai keeper) came up to me and told me how much it reminded here of a place she used to go climbing when she was very much younger, that really touched me as i hadnt been sure of showing a soil surface which was almost penjing,to be honest maybe i was just unsure of the reaction of my peers! Here is a pic of it 4 months before this show at the world of bonsai, this was its first styling, and a quick virt of what maybe the future, will mess around with the planting angle to induce a little more movement next year, and pootsie, you were the first person to mention this about the stand, and your spot on

Nice tree Lee...ohyeah,I've already said that .

In looking at your followup pics,i have to say..well i don't really have to but i would like to,so i will :

Except for the branch which turns back and visually touches the pot,I like the earlier style better(2820).I think the sparse foliage on the earlier pic is a better match for the "story" your bonsai tells me.Either way....it's a great tree.
