I wish that right jin hadn't been jinned, i'm working on a sketch, i hope i get up before this one is locked. If i had received this tree in a raffle, i would reduce it to a very much shohin size. I would use the second branch on the right, not counting the jins, as a new apex, use the first left hand branch and the first branch, and the living right hand branch as the second branch, then that right branch above that as a new apex, it looks very well ramified.

the sketch will clear all that up.

Brendan, I think you misunderstand this part of the forum. The intention here is to critique a tree, the tree is posted with that in mind. Telling someone to plant it in the ground for three years is exactly the advice someone would give who does that to their own trees regularly. It isn't an insult, it is basic advice that we give often. Now, you may not like the tone here, but you also may be mistaking banter for something worse.

The Tree of the Day area is specifically for us to take apart trees (if we wish to) and bounce ideas off of each other. It is a useful learning tool, and the owners of the trees have full choice to post or not.

If you are bouncing around, maybe you are not getting enough feel for the forum to really make a judgement about either the tree critiques or the tone being employed here.

Joanie

And the trees in this part of the forum are NOT posted by willing eager beginners, as I pointed out above, there is a place for that. So please apologize, because it is exactly the Masters or at least the better artists who post here who help us all to learn.

Whoa There Big Guy!!!

Gday Brendan!

Joanie is right - the specific purpose of Tree of the Day is to 'deconstruct' a given tree with a view to improving our viewing and critiquing skills, as well as possibly even improving the tree in question.

Matt (TreeBay) has kindly allowed a 24 hour grace period in which a User may edit or remove their post. It's a really handy function - it has helped me remove my foot from my mouth a number of times. [EDIT] I see you've found it! [EDIT]

Thanks.

Fly.

Doesnt Seem worth it

Thanks Joanie & FLy but i still differ - suggesting to pass this tree off to the club raffle is constructive critiquing?

I think not! - I realise the whole point of this forum, but users have the choice to add their suggestion or not - i see it too many times users basically degrading ones trees. I understand what CRITIQUING a tree is, sugguesting to forget about it and come back and see us in 3 years or fobbing it off to a raffle prize isnt the point of the forum.

Be Constructive - Not Distructive
