TOD for Friday 08JULY2005
Here's our latest Tree of the Day
I'm not sure of the species. It's an hollow trunk informal upright, and it might be a Buttonwood.... or a Hornbeam... or a You can use the pencil tool under the photo to make notes Regards, Matt

This is a great bonsai. Exceptional trunk, both in movement and taper. The hollowed feature adds greatly to the maturity. Pot placement is spot on. Some may say a more glazed container is appropriate here, but I like it as is.
I think it's a buttonwood, but I can't zoom in enough to know for sure. The only thing I would like to see is an extension of foliage on the three lower branches on the right, so I did that in my virtual. Wonderful tree. John

I think John is right on the money. That is one cool tree. The only addition(subtraction)i would make is to trim the top growth "escaping" the sillouette at the crown.

I'd like to see more separation, fuller layers, and extend the first branch and the crown on the right side. My big concern with this tree, though, is that the new branches do not harmonize with the girth and shape of the main trunk. Before I examined it closely, I thought this might be a root-over-rock tree.
