Submissions will be accepted throughout the months of March and April. After submissions end, we'll have a popular vote for the best article. The deadline is April 30th, 2005 at midnight. Below are the rules for eligibility: A. SUITABILITY & ELIGIBILITY Articles submitted to the contest must be original, unpublished content, minimum length of 500 words. Articles must be submitted by the author. Articles may include original photographs or illustrations. We recommend that the photos be 600 pixels on the major axis. 450 pixels is the minimum size. You can also use photos from the forum. Articles may be on any bonsai or suiseki related subject, including, interviews, how-to articles, tree critique or redesign, a collecting trip, species guide, etc. For ideas, check out existing Articles forum. If you have questions about whether a topic is appropriate, please contact me for suggestions. B. SUBMISSIONS & DEADLINE: Submissions become the property of bonsaiTALK. This does not mean that you cannot publish your submission elsewhere after this contest ends, but it does mean that bonsaiTALK, or its designee(s), have the right to republish the article in any form, in any medium for any purpose. bonsaiTALK reserves the right to edit submissions for content and suitability. Articles should be submitted here as a new thread posted to the Articles Contest Forum or emailed to articlesATbonsaitalk.com. You can submit them in WORD or text format with photo attachments if you choose to use email. Articles will be moderated here so they won't be immediately visible to anyone. I will make each submission anonymous and then activate them so everyone can see them. If the article needs some editing or touch up, we'll discuss it. *If you publish your article elsewhere prior to the conclusion of the voting, you forfeit the prize.* Enter as many original articles as you wish. Submissions will be accepted throughout March and April. In the event we have fewer than 10 articles received, we reserve the right to extend the contest deadline until we get ten submissions. C. VOTING At the end of the entry period we'll enable voting to select the best article by popular vote. If someone is found to be attempting ballot box stuffing (we record IP addresses and usernames) that person's votes will be disqualified and the user may be subject to harsh discipline. D. PRIZES At the conclusion of voting the prizes will be awarded and each author's name will restored to his/her article. Contest is void where prohibited by law. There's still two weeks of winter left in the Northern Hemisphere. Plenty of time to finish an article or two.

Besides, it's summer doldrums Down Under, and we had all those complaints about snow in the nursery beds...

Seriously, the Article contest deadline isn't for nearly two months, and that should give everyone ample time to participate in either or both contests.

That will happen approximately 1 week after the submission deadline (that's the end of April) assuming we get 10 submissions by that time. We've had 8 or 9 so far.
