"Artists may vote for their own trees", I really don't understand this part.
How can you vote on your own tree?

Further I think that the highest and lowest scores should be erased from the final average score.

How do you feel about this suggestion?

Wessel;

Maybe it's a cultural thing? In the US, even the president gets to vote in the presidential election...they (we) make kind of a big deal out of it... Just food for thought all in the spirit of fun.

what i think wessel is trying to get at is how can you fairly rate your own tree? the presidential election thing is kind of a different thing because candidates aren't rating HOW WELL their election went but giving themselves a neutral vote where all votes are equal. in this competition, not all votes are equal, a vote could be anywhere from a 1 to 10, and each vote would effect the average score differently.

i think that's what you meant, isn't it wessel?

Earthgirl,

I was born and raised in the US and was taught that it is bad form to actually vote for yourself in an election. ALthough the president votes, we don't know how he votes, I would like to think that he votes for the other guy.

Even if I did feel it was okay to vote for myself, I would have a hard time giving myself a high score as I am always my own worse critic.

I am with you on that one.

I have assesed my tree the same way I have all others in the competition.
  • Initial choice of material.
  • Choice of suitable style from this material
  • Execution of the styling and wiring
  • The final image and presentation
It is all about being objective and honest. What makes it hard is that I know exactly what mistakes I made during the styling process, but I can only guess on what everyone else had in mind when they started.

Mike

Oh, for crying out loud, you guys, my president comment was intended to be tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic and silly! Lighten up!

Thanks for the extra effort while voting

A special thanks to all those voters who also took the time to write a short critique of the tree they voted on. As a beginner, this is the best award I expect to receieve!

Thanks to Carl and Leslie, who seem to have made comments about a lot of entries.

Barry

The comments on my tree as well as on other trees have been very useful to me, too. They have shed light on things that I don't often think about since I've only shown one tree in a local show (and that wasn't a very good tree). In all, this experience is proving to be both encouraging and humbling (how is it possible to do both?).

I am very grateful to this forum and its members.

Thanks, all.

Michelle
