A different display

The "Golden Arches" are a regular part of the bonsai exhibit at Sei Boku Bonsai Kai, in San Mateo,CA.
There is usually a theme involved which I decide, and then find member's bonsai to fulfill the theme. I also look for a complimentary scroll to hang between the arches.
Last year the theme was forest planting. On the left is a trident maple forest, and on the right is an Alberta Spruce forest. The scroll is a Chinese mountain landscape, and the stone is Chinese that resembles a mountain landscape.
Not at all "formal" in the Japanese style, but always popular with the viewers.

Mike

Hey Mike,
This is an interesting display, but I do not think that it is effective as a whole. When looking at one arch alone, it is very effective, but when both are put together, one's eye does not know which to look at first. This copetition between the two could be compared to a sling-shot trunk in bonsai. JMHO

Of course, I know this display was meant for fun and not to be taken as a Japanese display.

I'm with Charles on this one. The staggering symmetry, down to the position of the stone with respect to the scroll is too much. The visual power of the two pieces of red fabric only exacerbates the effect.

Best regards,
Carl
