Cork Bark Pine for WBC

Hee's the presentation photo for the corkbark black pine I'm showing at the WBFF in DC. I welcome suggestions, especially what the image of an appropriate scroll might be. I'll also include a shot of the accent plant - a satsuki azalea - in flower, as I hope it will be in 2 weeks.

Thanks

Hi David.

Sexy little shohin satski you have there!

On the positive side, I think that the height of the stand to suggest an upland pine is very good - it is not too low. Another positive - the stand is the correct size, certainly wide enough to ground the composition. The accent is also a good size in relation to the main centrepiece bonsai.

The things that I would like to see investigated are the distances between the pieces and the relationship between them. At the moment, the accent is leaning away from the centrepiece, leading the viewer's eye out of the composition. i start by viewing the bonsai, onto the accent satski, the off out to the left of the whole piece. There may be two remedies for this:

1. Try reversing the accent so that it talks to the bonsai.
2. Try reversing the composition, so that the tree is to the left and the accent to the right - what does that look like?

On a separate note, I think that the composition needs a bit more room between the pieces perhaps.

As to the scroll - if you really need one (which I'm not entirely convinced about), you could use something suggesting early summer. The satski does that for me though adequately.

Nice display

Regards,

Fish.

Mr. Fish -- Great comments. Thanks. You captured my thinking about the stand that some think is too big.
I agree there should be more space between the main tree and the accent, was placed as shown for the photo submission.

And the accent azalea might be better on the other side, unfortunately, the azalea is having a "bad hair" year and will be replaced with something else for the WBFF show.

Once again, thanks to Bart Thomas for taking the photos.

Hi David,

I can't really see much in the display photo because it is much too small a photo.

Regards,

Matt
