2 new shikishi

My wife and I went to San Francisco's Japan Town for lunch today, and as usual, we visited a small shop called Ma-Shi-Ko. The old Japanese gentleman that owns it sells fine pottery and other art goods, and occasionally has a selection of shikishi, some quite old, and in my opinion, reasonably priced.
I've attached 2 that I bought. The bull is one that I had to have as I'm a Taurus. The other I think is very pretty.

Really nice Mike, Ron Smith from Houston and I looked all over Tokyo for Shikishi such as the ones you found. Was tough sleding of curse if I could spend a year and a lot of time walking around..... Nice find. John

I stop in this shop every 2-3 months. Sometimes he has some that I haven't seen. I think he has people in Japan that send them. None of them are new, and some are pre WW2. You can spot the older ones right away as the cards are slightly smaller and have no gold edging like the newer ones have.
I need to get my scroll box down from the storage loft and make an inventory of the shikishi I've bought from this store. More than ten, I'm sure, and several appear quite old.

edit later:
I just took an inventory. Over the past couple of years I've bought 15 shikishi from the old gentleman to add to my existing collection. I'm now able to have an appropriate scroll for most of the 3 point displays at a club show.

Dear Mike

It's been a while since we spoke ,
it was about the boxwoods on e-mail to the Netherlands.
Hope You are well .

These shikishi are very sweet and interesting !

They are smaller as a scroll i've learned.
You use them for display ,
could You please show a picture of such a display ?
Or maby there is a link to one ?
I can't remember see-ing it and it interests me very much .
Kind regards
Morea

Hi Morea
Of course I remember about the boxwood email.
The link, which I hope you can access, shows some displays in the bonsai displaycontest at the Art of Bonsai website, some using scrolls.

Regards

Mike

Dear Mike

Thank You for the link , yes , it opens !

Indeed that is the way of presentation i mean ,
just the square painting , with the thin gold colored frame.
It looks very nice , especially with a robust tree.
Very attractive!

In the meantime i also found it on the forum here !
Kind regards
Morea

I believe the bird in the right hand picture is a nightingale...I have a collection of old kakemono--which are similar, as well as shin hanga prints. Another hole to throw money down that bonsai introduced me to

These are very nice.
