Bonsai Defined

Nature's law affirm instead of prohibit. If you violate her laws, you are your own prosecuting attorney, judge, jury and hangman.--Luther Burbank, horticulturist

Luther Burbank is indeed an interesting character. He didn't start plant breeding until he was an older gentleman. Like wise this quote is fitting since he is at least unwittingly and partially responsible for importing chestnut blight from China.

As it turns out his name is among at least a half of a dozen of names named on invoices for bringing the Chinese Chestnut to America and distributing it throughout the north east hence the chestnut blight. I guess if had to happen and he had a hand in it at least he left us the plumcott to enjoy and think about things for a while.

I am sorry to disagree with you, but Luther Burbank was breeding plants as a teenager, and had a patent on several varieties of potato when he was in his early 20's.

And while he didn't create it,he did introduce the "Krauter" Vesuvius plum.Anybody else here use one as a bonsai ? Mine is only partially shaped after six years. It still has a big area to be filled in.
