Re: Wooden growing boxes improve bonsai rootage ne

That's a very good issue. I found the same article in the Japanese Magazine and had to wait a couple years for the translated version to come out in bonsai Today. Well worth the investment.

Regards,

Matt

Some of you might be interested - there's a very nice 8-page article about the use of wooden growing boxes for Acer palmatum in Bonsai Today #50, still available from Stone Lantern Publishing at http://www.stonelantern.com/BTback.html

Matt: This is exelent material. I remember the article but pulled the issue just to refresh myself on it. The boxes that we make are 3in deep and after the tree is planted we staple burlap or weed block over the soil to keep down weeds, this also stops soil erosion due to watering. I will soon have a digital camera and will post pictures.

Re: Wooden growing boxes improve bonsai rootage ne

well, I have some, all of my boxes cost like that... some more, some less... well, that's the pro of living in an agricultural country, the people transport their vegetables inside this boxes, but the sometimes put them in the trash can afterwards (when they get old), so they don't hessitate in selling one of them...

Well, in the pic, there are 3 boxes (try to find them) 2 have azaleas, and 1 has a Ceiba Pentandra (the national tree) well, it has to develop a branching structure, but it's so slow grower, that I think that I will have a blooming style ceiba in about 10 or more years... because of the size of the leaf, I think it will always be in a blooming style (I doubt it can be styled different)... Well, that's my space, I always try to get more space, but my mom doesn't want me to place benches or stuff, because of the grass... well, bye
