Been a long winter Ron, with lots of art to go around, I typically read them, find it all interesting, and valuable for learning, but it can be tricky for a lot of us that aren't real comfortable in art speak ;>)

Art speak wasn't my intention. Explaning the why of things was.
Everybody talks about the rules but no one explaines the "why" of it. Maybe that is novice level that everybody want to be at. Thats fine. They can stay there.
That makes it much easier on me. No energy expended

For me it is all about art. After studying art and architecture I developed a keen interest in photography as well as in bonsai and believe that the standards of the 'aesthetic' are what led me there.

The most obvious parallel with the 'rules' of sound composition in painting for example is that the focal point should never be in the centre of the work. There are many more such as the leading of the eye into the picture and the play of light against dark (what the masters called 'chiaroscuro'), balance, etc.
The bottom line is that (whether or not you are aware of why), the fundamentals to proportion, tone and composition in visual art apply universally.
