If you don't look, you're missing out...
Dan Robinson: A Walk Through The Master's Garden
I was fortunate yesterday to decide to take a walk through Dan Robinson's Elandan Gardens, in Gorst Washington. I wanted to share a series of pics showcasing Dan's spectacular work, with special emphasis on his carving work. His carving work, of course, being his trademark. The following is a series of pics showing the whole tree and then macros of particularly beautiful woodwork on the same tree. Be sure to notice how light comes through some of the trunks as a good many of these carvings go straight through the tree. And also how the carvings so often bring to mind the idea of a faceted jewel... These trees are treasures indeed. I hope they inspire you, even as they took my breath away yesterday. It is a shame that the pics are too large at their perfect resloution, to be up loaded to the forum. The quality of my camera is exceptional. As I am not certain how the uploading will organize the pics all the names are paired... carve1.jpg/carve1tree.jpg The day was made perfect when while walking through the master's garden, the master himself came through. And noticing my interest in his carving work he took me though to point out trees he felt I would really enjoy. And leaving me to my contented photography for a bit (I took 300+ photos), came back to me later before I left to talk to me about the way he did his work. Describing to me the future of a particular tree he showed me that he was working on. A very gracious man... he even asked me about my trees... talk about turning pink... but it was kind indeed for him to ask. If there is enough interest I would be prepared to share more pairings of pics. This of course is but the tip of the iceberg. The first question Dan asked me as he walked up to me along the gravel path, with a bright smile on his face was... "How are you enjoying my garden??" At the time my answer was a bit silly, being so suprised with realizing I was meeting Dan... I hope this tribute will be a finer answer to just how much I enjoyed my walk though the master's garden. |
