Update

Here is the setting two months on. The trees have survived the root pruning. A few changes.

Nice work Peter, coming along nicely.

I can picture the Cotter River trickling past.

Just a tip i was told.

Best time to root prune Eucalyptus is when the temp is 40c or over. they go dormant at 40 and is safer to work on them. The person who told me was the president of the northern districts bonsai club in SA. One of his club members won a large amount of awards at the Royal Adelaide show with all native plants.

Oh never wire them below 90* or the branch (sometimes the tree) will die....

So you practically have to boil them?

BTW what is the pot? Interesting shape.

Hello Asus101 & GrumbleGuts,

Asus,

Rarely it gets over 40degC here and in the 12 years I have been working with Eucalyptus nicholii I have found that when the day temps are around 25 + and nights are above 5 is good for repotting. These temps may vary depending on the variety you are working within and your own micro climate. Thanks for the advice I will take it into consideration.

GrumbleGuts,

The Tray is an oval mica pot (Korean) 78cmx63cmx10cm

One Month On

Hi,

As Eucalyptus are putting on new growth and and throwing back on old wood ( When top is cut), I have wired the trees into a more perminant position.

Because the growth is vigorous the wiring will not stay on long. Maybe two weeks, enough time for the branches to set.

It is important now to encourage the foliage and only pinch to thicken pads.

Peter

WOW! I know it's not complete but it looks just stunning to me. Looks like an Aussie outback where one can observe, oh I don't know, Perenti basking on the rocks Congrats Peter!

Nice stock for a group Peter.
I would have put the highest and thickest tree slightly off center to the left but closest to the viewer. The second larger one where it is now, and the small one at the right but toward the back of the pot, thus creating an assymetrical triangle.
Marc.
