I have a nice finished stained brown wooden turntable that might have been used in an art studio that I got in a garage sale. I like the brake idea though, and might mount it onto something so it can have a brake...hmmm...

You can find them easily on eBay - usually listed as "Tv turntables".

FWIW, I bought mine also at the local "Aldi" supermarket here in Amsterdam - they were on sale at 1 EURO each ($1.20) - I bought all 5 they had...

Problems !!!

Hello everyone !!

I've been drooling over this thread, and I spent the entire weekened trying to find all of the parts. So far, I have everything except, the sliding door lock and the lazy susan mechanism. I went to every hardware store in my surrounding area, and I've must have been to 5 or 6 Home depot. I am totally washed out, literally , we had a serious rain storm this weekened and my basement got all flooded, and to top that of I've been running the city trying to find all of these parts to make my well needed turntable. Does anyone have any suggestions ? Please help !!!! Thanks in advance !!

They have both of them at Home Depot. You just need to look in the right area, bring a picture and don't give up. The lazy susan might be in general hardware or in cabinet ware. They might call it a turntable or something else. Take the photo with you.

The door locks are there too. Look for wherever the screen door parts are.

They are there!

Regards,

Matt

Thanks Matt, but I've tried all of the above. I mean I've asked and I searched the stores myself. Maybe the home depot's here in Phila. are very lousy , as far as stock. It's just eating me up , because I'm so close, but yet so far, to completing this project. Those are the only two items that I'm missing.

Every Home Depot is laid out exactly the same. There may be aisle changes, but the plan-o-grams are identical. Ask for the drawer hardware. (the pull out drawer guides) The lazy susans are right next to the drawer guides to the left. Trust me they are there. If not Pm me I will send you one from Fresno.

O.k. Al , I'll go back tomorrow and check next to the pullout drawer guides on the left side. If they're not there, then Home depot better watch out for me, because I'll go " Bonsall" , in that place !!! ( LOL - LOL -LOL ) You know like, " Postal " ......... Just kidding... I'll let you know what happened tomorrow . Thanks for the reply Al ...

I was just browsing and Googled for "Lazy Susan" - since I had no clue what one was - I cam across this nice little guide at "Lowes":

Does this help?

Al - and something for you:

Another approach

I cheated in a different way to develop my turntable. I wanted to be able to work standing up (since I have a lower back problem) and thought I might be able to do something with the tripod I use with my video camera. I went out to a local crafts store and bought a large (12") basswood bowl. I stained it a dark mahogany because I also use it as a display stand in my living room.

To the bottom (in the middle) I screwed a block of hardwood that has a slightly skewed edge on one side. This fits well into the quick release chuck that would normally hold the camera.

The reason I used a bowl is because I can keep my area fairly clean when I am pinching and pruning by dropping material into the bowl around my pot. I can adjust the height, and the tripod has the handle I can use to turn my work as well as a dog that I can use to brake or release the spinning.

Works for me!
