Matt,
That just might be your most informative and best-presented article yet! A hearty THANK YOU! for taking that time to put that together for us! I think I may build one of these myself rather than buying that turntable that I asked you all about a few weeks back. All the best, OMC |

Hi folks,
Just wanted to take a moment to say that John's presentation/workshop was excellent! I ended up with what is probably the nicest turntable I've ever seen! I was very fortunate that last night was the night that I finally joined Midori after moving to the bay area. I previously lived in Florida and was active in the Brevard County Bonsai Society there. Needless to say that my interest is in tropical trees...I had some wonderful mentors there. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone at Midori. Again, hat's off to John....it was easy to justify not investing in a turntable for the 5 years that I've been into bonsai since most of my trees are mame size, but I have a feeling that this wonderful turntable is going to make things a LOT easier! Thanks John! Annette |

thats just too complicated compared to what i have done. I went into a shop filled with miscelaneous stuff and brought a turn table for a television. It only cost me a few pounds (sterling) and it does the job a treat.

Most of the reason for the complexity involves having a means to fix the movement. It's important to be able to stop the table from rotating with some kind of brake. That makes it possible to wire, carve, saw or what have you. If you have found an inexpensive commercial turntable that has that feature, please share it with us!
Regards, Matt |

Nice article Matt. I really enjoyed it.
Turntables are one thing that I seldom carry at the shop. Just no profit in them when they can be made so easily by anyone (almost ) with a hammer and saw. Hopefully you don't sell turntables on your web site. Hate to admit it but I have never looked at what all you carry. Will have to do that one of these days. Anyway a nice how to article that I am sure a lot of people will find useful. Functional and not too expensive. A hard thing to beat. |

This may be similiar to what Mr Simpson is referring too, the poormans turntable ( or the lazy man who can't be bothered making one
), I buy them for 3.99 au at an el cheapo shop near me, I put them under all of my large bonsai that I have trouble moving around so I can rotate them to check the rear and give the dark side a turn in the lime light, I believe there intended use is for computer monitors, but on the packet is a picture of a bonsai so I guess there onto the fact that some people use them for bonsai too. ![]() |
