"Rmember, too, that some people wait until the auction is nearly finished to bid. Rather than run the price up immediately. "

That's true. You also have to register to bid. Wonder how many of the viewers is registered, or a bit intmidated by the tree? Some beginners and intermediates see a tree like that and immediately discount it as being over their heads for a variety of reasons...a shame, as it is a pretty nice ficus (which is pretty tough material to kill) at a really good price.

Wes,
Overpriced junipers and pines?

Perhaps it is just preference. The price is certainly right, but I personally prefer junipers and pines- just a preference thing.

Cheers, we'll keep bumping this.
John

An example of my Verbal Judo(tactical wording).

We tease Andy, well.. I tease him about about only growing house plants, ficus, scheffleras etc.. and not having any "real" bonsai. When I was buying from Daytona I/we would give him %$#@ about staying up at night to make sure all of his trees had the rocks glued down.

Ok, so who won it? Dr. John? Whats your plans for it?

Wes,
I did receive the lovely ficus on Friday. I, being the impatient type, immediately lifted it out of its growing container and placed it in a big ceramic training pot (a 26" pot) that is about 2 inches deep. Treating it like a Japanese maple and working the root mass to stay shallow and flare.

I will let it rest and run for a while. As it is a tropical, and a relatively new experience for me, as I am used to working on those overpriced Pines and Junipers ;-}, it will take me a while to get used to it.

Those of you who didn't particiapte in the auction, I got way too much tree for the price I paid, Andy was more than generous with this one.

John

Thats cool John, the tree looks killer. The only problem I have ever had with the species is cats digging and knocking them about. My bigger one I just dry stumped, been keeping the over kill of sucker tips rubbed out focusing on a leader.

I have seen Andy's stuff! And let me tell you I was very impressed with the sizes and the care! And yes I will be buying from him again.

Here it sits inside a greenhouse settling in before it goes outside. The water bottle is of the 16 oz variety. Like I said, was a lot bigger than i thought, which males it even better. Thanks. John
