Little A: Your question is more profound than it may seem to you!

Basically, carving is the reduction of dead and/or unwanted live wood to achieve a desired shape of the tree. Often this will mean carving jins from large branches down to sizes more appropriate to the tree, enhancing hollows in the trunk,etc.

It can also be used to rid the tree of an undesireable piece of wood gracefully.

That's where it begins

I suspected the answer was fairly complicated, kinda' like asking, "How do you grow bonsai?"

I was hoping for a concise answer just like the one you gave, and quite well I might add.

It would be great if it developed into it's own topic though.

I was more or less wondering if it meant something like adding artwork or characters,(letters and such,) but thought that it meant what you described.
