'tis the Season

Looks like the Christmas season is almost upon us. The signs are unmistakable. The stores are all decorated and full of things "on sale." The newspaper is a few pounds heavier with all the coupons stuffed in them.

The day after Thanksgiving is supposed to start the "official" buying season. Stores open early and close late. Lines are long. Tempers get short. The guy from the Salvation Army is just outside the door ringing that annoying bell.

Me, I have my own barometer. Four things that tell me when the Christmas season starts.
  1. The Salad Shooter commercials are on TV.
  2. This is followed by the Clapper commercial
  3. Now comes the Chia Pet commercial.
  4. and last but not least the radio stations start playing "Grandma got run over by a reindeer"
So far, only one of these things that hasn't happened. The Clapper commercial hasn't made its appearance. I expect that won't happen till the middle of next week. But it will come. This year only the order of the events has changed.

In 25 days a fat guy will come shinnying down the chimney. Hopefully he is there to leave some presents and not a burglar bent on taking them. Just remember, the fat guy without the mask is Santa. Don't shoot him. He gets the cookies.;o)

What does this have to do with bonsai? Nothing, I was just getting bored and thought I would share my misery with my friends. Hope you have something better to do than just read this drivel.

Re: Tis The Season

Im not quite sure what you mean my the salad shooter commercial or the clapper commercial. Maybe I don't watch enough tv, or maybe it is just shown in South Carolina.

No it's not a South Carolina thing. You just don't watch enough TV.
Maybe you play with your trees too much )

Another way to tell christmas is on the way is by those photocopies that circulate round work...

Traditional Christmas cake.

Ingredients: 1 cup water
1 cup sugar
4 large eggs
2 cups of dried fruit
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 bottle whisky
1 cup of brown sugar
8 oz nuts
Juice of 1 lemon

Method:

Sample the whisky to check for quality. Take a large bowl. Check the whisky again. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer, beat 1 cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 tsp sugar and beat again. Make sure the whisky is still okay. Cry another tup. Turn off the mixerer. Break two eggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the dried fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the whisky to check for tonsisticity. Next sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who cares? Check the whisky. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Grease the oven. Turn the cake 35º. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window. Check the whisky and go to bed.

Regards,

Chris/TB

Sinterklaas

Here in the netherlands we have Sinterklaas. He's not Santaclaus but they have a few things in common. They're both dressed in red , they both have beards, and they both give presents. The good thing is that Sinterklaas is on december 5th. That means I'm going to get my present next friday. ( can't wait ) Here's a picture of him. The guys next to him are called "zwarte piet".

René

Oh yeah, he rides a horse instead of a sleigh.

I think Santa claus would crush a horse, or even his rain deer if he got on them!
