Ya'll wouldn't kill Zippy would you? Zippy ain't hurting nobody, all he does is water ski the day away.
Oh - thought you may need a soap box for this debate. This one has shoe marks so you know where to stand...

If you had no choice but to kill them to eat (or feed your kids) I'd be much more understanding, but I seriously doubt the vast majority of us have that problem - and we certainly wouldn't be on our computers telling about it if we did!
Malhomme - I was not implying that your son was 'stuff', but your trees, or anything weighed in the balance against the life of an animal. |

Talk about soap box,you seem to have a stack of them. It is pretty bad to put yourself on a pedestal, but one made from soap boxes is even worse.I wont even bother adding links where you have talked down to people in your condescending manor, for everyone here has read them enough already. I can't beleive this thread is still here.
I was gunna say something about how silly this is, but i'm not wasting any more time on this.

Thanks for the laughs guys, this is a great thread.
My only advice to those with squirrels: get a dog. His bark keeps them far away from the house. Even at midnight...LOL And to a few of those who care, do some research on the ecology of this squirrel situation. You will find some interesting results pertaining to how and why these squirrels came to be in your yard. And for the record, I, though I am a vegan and care very much for animal rights, would rather everyone kill and prepare their own squirrel from their own yard, rather than buy their meat at the supermarket. It keeps their numbers down and you are saving the environment. Killing for the sake of killing is another story however...as humans are the only species that seem capable of this. Luckily I don't have a squirrel problem, even though I live in the direct center of the thicket, with ten or more miles of thick wood in every direction where squirrels are overabundant. Perhaps they don't bother me (or my trees) because I am not infringing on their territory? Or perhaps it is my dog... whose life story is chasing small animals from the yard. Either way It isn't necessary for me to kill them, even though I probably would if I ever found them gnawing at any of my trees. I would, of course, give the meat to my family. I hate killing an animal, but if there is a single thought that the animal can hurt me, my family, or infringe on my possessions (like chewing bonsai trees or chewing wires underneath the house...) I will kill it in a heartbeat. Such is life. and Bonsai_Outlaw... check PM... we goin' huntin' ? Craig |

Dude - lighten up. It was a humerous post on my part and I'm sorry I offended you. Hell, even the soap box was squirrel size. Do you know how long it took for me to find that? Sheesh. It seems like every three months or so a "kill them tree rats" thread goes it's course on bonsaiTalk. Whatever. I'm going to comment on that thread as are you and several other members. You all have your side and I have mine but you don't have to like my side or agree with it. Should I be excluded from your party? If you think so bring that up with the mods. If you like spending time looking up my old posts have at it. I would assume you have better things to do than research all of my posts and threads on whatever I felt like commenting on at the time. Really amounts to nothing more than some form of a personal attack against me. Go ahead and post those links. Waste your time, I'm sure it will make for some interesting reading for those who care. What are you trying to prove? What are you trying to do? What do you want me to say or do? Just try to keep the personal attacks to a minimin. This is a useless (as in non bonsai related) thread that goes on for three pages and 26 posts. Move it to the humor section as it's a big joke.

Obviously a "hot" thread, but I am not even going to start reading it !
Yes, this topic seems to be repeated far too often. As Graydon has requested - this will now be moved to humor, where I hope myself or other mods do not need to spend any more time on it Regards, Ian |

i've been waiting for another one of these to pop up. We get a few squirrels where i live, but we also get foxs, hawks and falcons so the 'tree rats' are kept in check. they only invade our proporties because we have invaded theirs. as someone said- get a dog and they wont come near.
