Thats pretty good Jay. I am from Alabama, but I spent some time in Maine. The guys I worked with made fun of me for freezing up there. One of them came down last christmas to do some hunting and I told him to bring some warm clothes, it gets colder than he thinks. He just laughed and brought a thick wool shirt. He was here 8 days, and the first three were beautiful, bluebird skies and about 60. But then a cold front moved in and it dropped from about 50 to 25 and was drizzling rain. He was in the stand all day with just his wool shirt. That night when I got him down, he was blue and shivering. So I got to make fun of him about freezing in Al. I thought this would buy me some relief when we got back to work, but it didn't they only aggravated both of us! Sorry for the long story, it just reminded me of my old crew I worked with.

jed1238, You sure are right abou these temperature swings. I just moved from Detroit to Nashville in October last year. I knew Nashville still gets cold in the winter and figured I'd be used to it from the Michigan winters. Man... I sure wasn't prepared for it to drop 30º or 40ºf in ONE day! Michigan and the northern states get much colder, but the change is gradual and over a very long season. It sure feels alot colder than it is when it drops that much in 24 hours... it doesn't give you any time to adjust to it.

Don't get me wrong though.. I love it down south now that I'm here. And when the temp goes UP 30-40º in one day it sure is nice!!

p.s. Ron... is that picture from Hell, Michigan? If so it freezes over every year (yes..there is a Hell, Michigan...but its NOT Detroit....strange....)

One of the most uncomfortable winters I ever spent was in Palm Beach in 1959-60.

No central heating anywhere. If you tried space heaters, the fuses would blow. I used to go for long drives just to warm up (and I'm talking temps that got down to upper 40s (F) at worst.

2 years before, I was walking around Boston in a (heavy) sport coat. Of course, I'd judt gotten back from two weeks in northern Quebec, where it had been -35 in the noonday sun, not including wind factor.

Just goes to show how important conditioning can be!

Well, it was in the mid 20's here last night (Superbowl Sunday) in SW Michigan. And yet we still set up the grill and cooked some steaks out back. Actually, that was the second time this month we did some good ol' outdoor grillin.

In my house outdoor grillin is a 'year-round-dont-matter-what-the-weather-is-sport'

But that's just me!

From the been there /done that file. I spent a few years in northern Ontario (I don't mean just Toronto ) and had two particular memories come flooding back when the topic turns to temps. The first happened in North Bay ,ONT. There were actually warnings on both radio and T.V. warning that if you had to go outside that exposed skin WOULD freeze in less that 7 secs. I remember the actual temp was -53 C without the wind chill. The town is right on an open lake several miles across so the wind can be a real *itch and -70 c was not unheard of.

The second was a couple of years later in Thunder Bay . I was visiting EX-inlaws for Christmas and it turned cold somewhere in the -60 C range but there was very little wind so it didn't seem so severe(that's the part that kills ) but it was made graphic on the day we were leaving in the time that it took to park the car and for me to climg into my chair and roll across the street in front of the airport the suit bag I was carrying actually froze and BROKE as soon as went inside the terminal.

That is just tooooo much nature for this guy for a long time .

Keeping warm on the east coast TTFN
