Now come on guys... even I know that this tree has to go into a grow box or the ground to build itself up. Before you do anything... get this guy into some good clay soil for at least 96 hours!

yes, it takes a willow at least a day or two to get fully mature bark

Ceberon,

Why do you even bother to read BonsaiTALK if you are so clearly incapable of appreciating even the simplest facets of our tutelage?

You don't even deserve an answer, but with superior wisdom comes an obligation to teach even the undeserving, and so I cannot help but lead you, even if they be baby steps that you must take.

The First Rule of bonsai presention is the three-piece display. Without it, you have nothing, and certainly you have no bonsai.

Watch closely, and I will teach you.

---

This is a three part display or tokonoma. Here we have three elements forming a syncretic whole, united in theme and in form.

The tree is a very old maple that I collected myself (yamadori) from the gutter of my garage roof. It has been in training for almost three months, and its withered form and single leaf tells a story of the harsh battle against the elements.

The accent piece is a old and genuine wooden carved turtle, collected at the Honolulu International Airport in June of 1999.

The scroll was fashioned by an artist whose has signed the work in kangi that vaguely like this:

Ha11M^rK

The poetry on the scroll sets a tone for the whole, drawing the entire composition together in thematic unity.

Friends make your day a little brigheter,

Friends make your heart, a little lighter.

I'll be your friend, you be mine.

A friend is your own special sunshine.

---

So please, Ceberon, until you learn the very basic of the basics, refrain from wasting our time further here on bonsaiTALK.

Sincerely,
Old Mister Crow

I think a small section of rusted gutter would be the ideal display container for this rufadori bonsai, and rather than the carved sea creature, I would like to see an accent more suitable for its rooftop origins, say perhaps a whiffleball, shuttlecock, newspaper or frisbee?

Matt, I feel pity for you. I really do.

You think that just because you run the best doggone bonsai site in the universe, that somehow you are qualified to comment on - or even critique - my creations.

Fool! You don't deserve to even view the jpegs of my work.

As any Master would know, the origin of the tree is irrelevent to the illusion.

Here I have conveyed - perfectly - the undiluted essence of the C terminal of any our nation's major airport hubs.

A tacky curio, the unwitting poetry of postmodern America, and a potted tree hanging on to what can hardly even be called a life, despite insuffient qualities of air, light, water, and, worst of all, attention from the tired, frazzled, and nonetheless distinctly attractive blond stewardesses who pass by, dozens to the hour.

And all you can see is a rain gutter.

Pathetic.

I feel for you, Matt.

The composition lacked formality. I think this formal antique Chinese Panda pot really makes this display snap.

I wonder who is getting the biggest laugh out of this thread. Us or Ceberon? I've had the distinct feeling all along that Ceberon posted this to see what kind of hackles he could raise.

We've all been had.
