My New Mini-bonsai

I decided I needed some spending money last night, so I grabbed my sculpey, and a cute little weeping willow cutting that had just started rooting, and combined them into this magnificent example of mini-bonsai. I figure I can get $100-$200 easily for this masterpiece. Please ignore the pot in the background, I just used it as a backdrop.. it was the only large thing I could find to put into the background to block out the green grass (Figured it'd be hard to see the willow against a grass background).

Yes, I was bored.

Maybe you could air layer it at the first leaf and create two $200 bonsai? Hang onto that large pot. I think you will need to repot this in the fall...

I was thinking it could be Bunjin until next year, when I'm planning on growing another leaf on the left hand side, so that it can be a formal upright. I must seek balance. I'm also thinking about doing a trunk chop sometime soon (spring maybe), to get a little more taper.

I don't think that's a good idea. I think you should defoliate now and again next week, in order to reduce leaf size and develop ramification.

Also if you can find a real authentic bonsai pot with a panda climbing up the side, that would be the best way to display a tree like this.

(Yeah, yeah, that was a cheap shot, I know....)

I would be most interested to know what your growing medium is. It looks to be Rice Krispies.

That would be a strong zoom-in on terra-green.

Crunchies make good bonsai soil. Looks good to me.!
How about using some 9gage wire to put some bends in the trunk....you know some interesting curves.
Yeah! Yeah! that's the ticket...9 wire to put curves into the trunk! Pretty curves!!!

ok after many years of trunk thickening and keeping with the same design of the tree I predict it will look something like this.
