Question Fess up - recycling containers

Okay, how many of you are using those city-provided recycling containers to store soil components?

+5 points per container for storing soil
+10 points per container for growing trees
+20 points per container for stealing your neighbor's bins

Inset: Illinois bonsai artist Michael Freeborn (L) enlists his family to scavenge recyling bins after the neighborhood trash pickup

You missed another option, Matt:

"The City I live in is so back-arsed that they do not have a recycling program"

Sad, so very very sad.

I picked up a dozen airtight storage bins with tops that snap on at walmart for 3.99 each. They are slightly bigger, a little studier, and they keep the soil components dry.

However I do use two recyle bins for "mini" compost bins, can a get a point or two?

Anaerobic. That's what you got when you close a tight lid. Composting reqiuires oxygen. NOT optional. In fact, quite a lot of oxygen and with quite a lot of heat as a by-product. Shut the lid- shut down the process. Do it in one of them pond baskets.

I use the airtight bought containers for soil components, Bill. I use the free recycling containers for compost. Lids swung open and holes drill for drainage.

Nice to see you btw, hope you're well. How's that pond basket working out for you?

I like them. I've bought all that are locally available this season. How's the site coming?
