Hi all

To this car thing, its kind of odd and quirky and i guess thats what makes it interesting to people. I think it is tasteless myself, i also dont agree with any type of figurine or 'mud man' in a bonsai pot.

I do however think that the tree growing over the statue of the girl on the ibc forum is kind of interesting, in a more tasteful way, i think i like the tree itself.

Im so sorry to hear of your loss. My sympathies are with you.

Adam,

I guess I didn't read this thread good enough, and I apologize if my reply caused any grief on your side. I'm very sorry to hear about your loss, and I can fully understand why you have mixed feelings about the crash bonsai site.

The point I was trying to make is that we shouldn't take Bonsai TOO seriously. Altough it is a wonderful hobby which is very important to me, I try not to forget that it's still just plants in a pot. I think it's perfectly ok to make jokes about it. Just like about any other hobby.

regards, René

Adam,

I'm so very sorry to hear about your mother.

I haven't lost a parent to a car crash, but I have lost a very close friend - so I know some hint of what you are suffering. And this did come to mind when I was looking at the Crashbonsai site; perhaps some of my own lukewarm response is for that reason.

--

There are a number of other, less tragic and still distinctly modern twists that one could put on a landscape planting; Nick Lenz has done some of these already, but there's plenty of room for innovation. For some time I've wanted to do a deep-south penjing at the some point, complete with a sweeping magnolia (probably representd by a boxwood), kudzu growing over old cars, and those Georgia pines that were everywhere. I won't be classic bonsai, that's for sure - but kids love it when I do things like this, and that's worth a heck of a lot.

Old Mister

I like it! but it seems a little costly for a matchbox car... IMHO.

Crashbonsai

Hi Folks,
Thanks for discussing Crashbonsai. I'm not sure what to make of the project myself, so I voted "don't care either way" just to be fair.
I certainly don't mean to offend anyone, and I hope I haven't. A bunch of my bonsai, plus other things, were in a busy Boston coffee shop for two months last year, with an agreement to pull anything that caused offense. There was none and I think people liked them.
Crashbonsai maintains, as stated in the web site, that no individuals have ever been injured in our accidents.
Thanks for the nice comments. If the 12.50% of the folks who clicked "I want a crashbonsai for my next club show" call now, I'll give them 12.50% off.
To clarify, our smallest models, Scale 1/37, are 4 inches long. The largest, 1/18, is 11 inches.
Thanks for your interest.

I have to admit, I don't like it. I don't mind the whimsical at all. I have seen other creations that are off the wall, and that's fine. It is art, and it's fun to see crazy stuff. But to be funny or crazy at another's expense, i don't like it. Having ridden with a state policeman for awhile and seeing crashes, having led alcohol and drug treatment classes, and having a truck crash through a window wall in my business and injur a worker, I just don't think crashes are funny,

Lighten up? In some areas, sure, but not in this one.

truly artistic

May I commend you on a job well done at using you imagination on a small scale 4say. I have never seen anything quite like this nor ever dreamed of it. I plan to do a swamp scene in the future once I have more skills & trees. I am from South Louisiana so I am doing it for cultural value.
