Although the representtion of crashed car in minature is true to real life I feel that it detracts from the idea of bonsai or artistic trees in pots. If it catches on Oh well! But for me the symbolisum leaves me a little cold.

Well, the cars really are quite skillfully crashed - I'll give it that much. The tree's aren't properly crashed, though, and I find that disappointing. A head-on collision can do a hell of a lot of damage to a tree of that size relative to the car as well, and I'd have preferred to see the damage realized on the trunk.
But I don't see this as taking off any time in the near future, though. That said, Nick Lenz has done some really nice pieces in roughly this style - there was an article in the ABS Journal in '98 or so with a number of his "landscapes," including one with a tank rolling through a forest, smashing through the penjing undergrowth.

Hah! I like it.
I think it perfectly embodies the spirit of bonsai, in that it represents a natural-like setting in miniature. Well, at least it's a natural-like setting for some teens I know. Of course, it's not exactly like nature (as bonsai are not), since the cars don't actually run on fuel.... My personal feeling is that if you find it offensive (and judging by the votes, most do) then you really need to lighten up a bit. Spend some time away from the terminal and go get some sunshine! This guy is having fun and I wholeheartedly support that. As OMC says, the cars are indeed skillfully crashed- I wonder if John Rooney spends as much time studying crashed cars as some do studying trees in nature? |

Ho- hum says it all. My sons and I have been doing this for years. We have a running gag at our shows to put some abomination of a miniture on some ones tree and watch their reaction when they see it. Like a little dinosaur or hello kitty. funnny.

Hey B-Nut, We do the same thing in Fresno shows. Last year we had a minature deer hunter with a deer too. This year we had plastic army men staging a moc battle. What fun, (it's only there for the critique, then we take it down).

I now look at the art of bonsai as excatly that, an art. This crashbonsai seems quite interesting and quite well done.
I wouldn't say that I loved it but it looks interesting. |

I think it's a neat idea, but i'm not big on the car crash idea, as I just lost my mom 11-15-01 to a drunk driver.
But it's still kinda neat, I guess it puts a little kick in bonsai.Adam |

Do we all agree that bonsai gives us inner peace?? Well - if you do agree we are mixing violence and sadness with inner peace!
