soil mixes have become a personal thing these days..
your growin conditions will dictate your mix..

I stay away from play sand completely.. to fine . holds to much water and not enough air space between particles.
With bonsai soil mix I tell people to think hydroponics, soiless with fast drainage.
Not familiar with turf builder.. if it is 1/8" or larger and high fired(doesn't break down or get soft after sitting in a cup of water for a couple weeks) it will work.
