Soil acidification

I was concerned about watering my azalea with alcaline water on the tub, but now I have not to worry about that, why? because now I'm not watering my plants, but the rain. It has started the rainy season, so I get my plants watered with a carbonic acid acuous solution, just some points below 7 or what we call pkw/2 jajaja... Would that be called a problem? mmm... don't think so... because the whole pots will have fertile acid soil... at least, for now bye

Re: Soil acidification

Oh, another thing, if you have a acid soil lover, and you have alkanie water, as I have, tell me what do you think about my mom's idea. She told me to put a lemon half over the soil, near to the trunk or to cut some little slices and cover the soil with it... It seems certainly fine for me... I don't know it could save you some time acidifying your water before you water your tree.. well, I hope it becomes helpful... bye

Re: Soil acidification

I would like to see a photo of this lemon bonsai!

We sometimes use either Miracid - an acidic fertilizer for acid loving plants by the Miracle-gro people, or industrial strength vinegar (diluted of course)

Regards,

Matt

Re: Soil acidification

Re: Soil acidification

Yes, because the water on my tub is really alcaline, so I pour it over the lemon (of course it has some holes) and when the water cleans out the lemon juice becomes acid instead of alcaline, I just don't add vinegar to the water, because I'm too lazy to do it... so I preffer to do it this way... Oh lazy boy...

Re: Soil acidification

The lemon is a source of acetic acid (like vinegar). Be careful that you don't overdo it. A lemon the size of the one in the photo can potentially add enough acid to kill the plant roots.

Re: Soil acidification

Don't worry doc, I had influenza last week, or before that? well, the thing is that I used that huge lemon on a delicious hot lemonade, to take care of my flu, so then I made some holes on it, so it is not full of juice... hehehe... well, and I haven't overused it, because I just put it when I'm going to water the plant (and because of the weather it is one of 3 or 4 days) so, the azalea is certainly fine, for now... I will watch to not kill it, thanks for the advice...

PS: it also has citric acid, a triprotic acid, which in the lemon juice can have a pH of 2!!!! that would kill the roots... so, I will certainly watch it... oh!!! and it also has ascorbic acid, which help us with the throat pain... (It's just that I'm studying some acid theory...) and in less quantity it has maleic acid and formic acid...
