Question Rooting hormone in Europe

A question for the europeans on BT,

can you recommend me a rooting hormone that is easily available in Europe? I've been looking around for 2 months and got sold many things that were not rooting hormones at all (Neurofix - an algae based soil amendment, mycorrhizal, ...). I guess that my explanations/descriptions in english/french were not good enough for the shops employees

Extra karma points for the german readers if they can even simply translate rooting hormone for me, as most nurseries/garden centers I visit are in Germany.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Just buy it at any webshop like :

http://www.onsstekje.nl/catalog/ind...e=1&language=en

In Dutch it's 'stekpoeder'.

If you go into a garden centre it will be kept either near the propagators or near the herbicides/insecticides etc. The tubs normally have a removable 'hat' with a spike on it for use as a dibber.

The literal translation into german is wurzelnden hormon (according to an online translator). I switched the en to de at the end of levons link, the whole page went german but it was still called stekpoeder.

FWIW, the german name would be 'Bewurzelungshormon'. But the stuff is rather hard to find here in Germany; I've never seen it in garden centres or nurseries, or even online - one place where you're most likely to find it are online grow shops ;-)

Levon,

I thought about ordering online, but the shipping costs are high and the local delivery is a disaster... on the other hand, the hormone + shipping can't be much more than all the stuff I was sold as rooting hormone until now

Al,

that is exactly what I thought for the location, never found any tho... not in the propagators section, not in the insecticides section and definitely not in the fertilizers section.

Ulrich,

that would explain why I never found any in a shop and why the people looked at me funny... oh well Grow shops as in weed grow shops, right?

One more question for everybody... I found a place in the UK selling rooting gel (Clonex) at a very reasonable price, and a colleague is flying back every weekend. Is the product alright?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

hehe, yeah... that's why I'd ask him to bring back the gel instead of the powder Then they might just think it's cocaine suspended in WD40 or something

Aparently cocaine and WD40 turns bright purple, the doorman at my local sprays every flat surface with WD to deter the naughty people. Anyway....

Rooting gels are fine. They work just as well as the powder but aren't as messy. I use the powder for cuttings as it's easy to dip them in and i use the gel/liquid types for airlayers; applyed with a paint brush.

Ulrich,

I found rooting hormone in Germany, along many other nice things in a nursery called Lambert (in Trier).

The product was not called 'Bewurzelungshormon' but 'Stecklingspulver' (Chrysal). After a small discussion with an employee 'bewurzelungshormon' is more like NeudoFix (soil amendment with extra stuff to help produce more roots) while 'stecklingspulver' is what we consider rooting hormone (help produce roots in zone that might normally not do it).

Hope that helps,
Mike

Ah right, I had completely forgotten about Chrysal! At 0.25% contents of indole-3-butyric acid it's less concentrated than the Rhizopon AA mentioned by Levon which comes at 0.5%, but will probably work just as well.
