Repotting

I was wondering how safe repotting is over the next 4 weeks. Well i know it isn't the optimal time of the year, but its the only time until march i'll be home long enough to get any real work done on my trees. I was wondering what you guys thought about this. Or should i just stick to some other bonsai work while i'm home...like photographing them??

Depends on the species of trees you have and when they were last repotted, what kind of health are they in, etc?

Oh all are in fine health, not spectacular, but not dying. And bonsai of all shapes and sizes. hornbeams, junipers, elms, maples... the normal stuffs. But anyway its just the normal yearly / bi-yearly repotting of a tree in training.

You should be able to repot your deciduous trees anytime after leafdrop and before budding, but you do want to be careful that the soil does not freeze if you do. That might mean taking more protection than you would otherwise (coldframe or cool greenhouse) Not indoors by the washing machine. That would pretty much be the kiss o' death.

Regards,

Matt

yea indoors by the washing machine wouldn't be good. My mom is messy with the soap. But yea, we have a root cellar that most of our trees are in the rest are in an unheated barn. The barn is a hair warmer, so do you think that would be acceptable if i did do some work?
