You must be a professional too.![]() If you are, of course you know that the original doohickey was invented by Edgar K. R. Doohickey, a prolific inventor of the Nineteenth Century. His silent partner Bob Rivendell invented the Thingama, but he never patented it. Sales of the Thingama were slow, and the device was relegated to the dust heap of history, until the Mylermore transformed travel in 1931. After that, "Doohickey" Edgar and "Thingama" Bob found that they could conveniently travel a Mylermore away. Don't they teach these things in school anymore? Joanie |

Sorry, should have been more clear. This isn't the same mix I use in my pots. I'll stay away from the soil mix debate. I use turface, well gravel, lava etc... in varying ratios depending on how much moisture retention I need. |

Aliflor is a brand name for the same thing as LECA it appears although I had not heard of the LECA.
When I lived and worked in Florida we grew orchids in Aliflor, it was the medium of choice. I experimented with growing Brazilian Rain Trees and Mahogany trees in it. Within 3 months time the roots had increased tremendously on both types trees. In south Florida I was watering everyday with this product as it creates larger air spaces btween the particles. It is available in several sizes, I used the 1/2 dia which is what we sold at the store/nursery I worked at. I thought it was great, I had forgotten about it until seeing this thread. Hector

I just got a shipment of primeagra brand LECA.. since its what I was showing as a example I figured I would try it.. And it looks like its got more air spaces and better wicking action I'll put a couple of trees in it and see how they like it. .. Trials begin soon.

I remember this being discussed in another thread. The solution to the large size was a food processor. Not advisable to use the wifes, better to get a used one from a thrift store.
