i tried once once again . i have read almost all the posts on soil , im sorry to bring this subject again . i have come to my own coclusions about the mix i have researched on this forum . 1/3turface , 1/3lava rock , 1/3 fine orchid bark . ive screened the mame soil to 1/8 , shohin to 1/4 , and mixed to the species of the trees i have . are the particle sizes in line with the size trees mentioned . i thank all of you for the wealth of knowledge contained in this forum . this is my first post , i tried to read everything i could before posting . thanks mark .

You mean 1/8 "inch" and "1/4 inch"? And is this the maximum or minimum particle size? Sorry I don't know where you are or what measurement system you're talking about, but I think 1/4 inch is pretty huge unless you're making a "drainage layer."

Here you'd get so much air moving through a 1/4 mix that it would probably dry out very quickly. I'd think 1/4 on shohin would be the maximum size particle you'd want in the mix, not the smallest.
Regards,

Matt

yes it is 1/8" and 1/4" , so a blend of both , maybe 3/4 of the 1/8 " to 1/4 of the 1/4 "would be a reasonable mix . thanks for your reply
