Huh? No organics??? What does the tree eat?

This may seem like a stupid question but I have to ask.
Doesn't a tree need some organics to have something to "eat."

Yep. Thats why as its caretaker it must be provided with a balanced diet of fertilizer thru its growing season. Much like a good tree "personal trainer".

Don't forget - a tree 'eats' carbohydrates it creates through photosynthesis. Nutrients are provided by the soil or by a doting tree-owner.

Wow, thanks Al and Hackberry. That's pretty amazing. I always assumed that trees somehow turned organics into more wood, and that was how they grew.
