Ive been using a regular plastic "noodle collander", or spagetti strainer...whatever you call them, to sift the fines out of soil. Mine works really well, and although you can't change the screens like you can on a regular soil sifter, they're a little cheaper, won't dent or bend, and most importantly are available at any Kmart/Walmart type store. Make sure to get the largest one they have though, as long as the holes aren't too big. Best to buy a second one for cooking, don't want any broken teeth.
