Question Mugo Pine Repotting

hello everybody , i wanted to ask for advice about repotting my mugo pine. it is a beautiful healty cascade i've been working on during the last year. Now the guy looks great but is still in the original plastic pot , which is about 1 foot tall. The pot is full of roots and micorriziae and i am very afraid to cut them off , wich would mean eliminating about 60% in the lower part of the vase.
what should i do? i would like to put it in a flat vase , but i'm afraid to kill the plant. should i put it in a tall vase? when would be the best time of year to do that? should i gradually change pot sizes a little at a time aiming at the final one?

thank you in advance for your help.

P.S. hey , this is my first thread..!!

Is there any chance you have a picture of it so we can judge what kind of pot to put it into.

With my pines I always keep the mychorise and put it into the new soil mixture for the pines.

here are two pics of my mugo pine , one is normal(i erased some shade it was very dark) , while the second one shows main branches and root system. white spots indicate areas where the the mycorrizias are more present.
what id like to have is a vase as tall as 1/3 the one shown in the pics. what do you think?

This is the kind of pot I would go for. Maybe a bit smaller than this though.
