Kanuma supplier in southeast US?

ANyone know of a supplier with Kanuma at a decent price? Preferably in SE US, but anywhere will do. Also, can young azalea and camellia(from cuttings) go directly into 100% kanuma, or should I add other components when they are just starting out.
thanks

bwaynef beat me to it - Bonsaimonk and Dallas Bonsai. I like the nicco kanuma from Dallas bonsai, it's got a large grain sand in the mix and the kanuma seems to be a little harder than most.

Strait up is fine. I have some cuttings rooting now in kanuma as well as my larger azaleas.

I add a little Hyuga to lighten up the kanuma with hot summers and humidity. Just a thought. John

I was thinking about adding perlite or something similiar to lighten the mix, like you mention, and also extend the use of the kanuma to more plants. Its pricey stuff.
I know I wont find Hyuga, so would perlite do just as well? I havent seen pumice at any garden centers.

Where are you on the Gulf Coast? Ron Smith of Ancient Bonsai in Santa Fe Texas (near) Houston may have some. I don't like perlite in these mixes because it floats. If you get the kanuma, it can be cut with haydite if you get it coarse enough.

Nip, if you order your Kanuma from the Monastery they carry pumice as well. The last I heard they have a ton of it.

John

Im a long way from Sante Fe. I usually put a perlite-less layer of topsoil to hold everything down, but it can still be annoying. I'll have to contact the monks, cuz I dont see pumice in their store. thanks

It's right below the kanuma on the soil page. 16 liters for $25 and is called Keisekesuna. Why the thought of "stretching" kanuma? Economically it does not make sense if the material you are adding costs as much as the material you are extending. I wouldn't consider "stretching" kanuma with azaleas as they need the acidic soil.

Cut with Hyuga to lighten the soil (improve summer care), not to reduce the cost of repotting. I have always found it interesting that folks will spend $10s, $100s or even $1000s on trees and pots and will try and save $1 or $2 on bonsai soil. We've all done it, I have learned it is not worth it. John
