Unhappy I have a fertilizer question?

Can anybody tell me the funtion of the 20-20-20 code. I ask this because I have two books that have a contradictions in the funtion of this 3 elements and what they do.
any help in clearing my mind in this wil be helpfull because I dont want to spoil my trees. Thanks in advance.

By law, all fertilizer must be guaranteed to contain a specific analysis of ingredients. Primary plant nutrients consist of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. N, P, K. 20-20-20 sounds like a soluble all purpose fertilizer.
Nitrogen- essential in the formation of chlorophyll. stimulates plant growth

Phosphorous- necessary for cell division and energy transfer. stimulate root growth

Potassium- required for enzyme reactions. associated with flowering and color enhancement
