Fish fertilizer question
I like to use a Miracle Grow auto mixing thing to feed my trees, You know the one you hook on a hose and put fertilizer in the bottom of it. I usually put about 2 caps full of Alaskan Fish Fertilizer in the container and feed about every 2 weeks.
My question is, Is this too much or not enough? I seem to be getting good results with this mixture but if I can put more food to my trees without harming them than I will.

"I seem to be getting good results with this mixture"...over what time period have you been using the technique?
I believe the Alaska Fish fertilizer is pretty weak, (i.e.,5-2-2), when used full strength. Placing a small amount in a hose end sprayer ( to fertilize how many trees??) would make it hard to determine what concentration you were actually providing to the trees... If this has been your practice for a long while, I guess it works! If this is a recent method with no track record, I'd be on the lookout for signs of deficiency eventually. I use full strength ( according to package directions) Peter's, Miracle Grow, or similar every two weeks during the active growing season, and they seem to like the attention. I may supplement with higher phosphorus for flowering trees, use a special formulation for acid loving trees, or eliminate most nitrogen during fall and winter. Some like to fertilize "weakly, weekly"...half of the package directions more frequently. I suppose that would also work. Bill Valavanis looked into his methods of soluble fertilizer use in the past and felt full strength was the best option.

I've been using this mixture for maybe a year. I am finished feeding before the solution gets noticably weaker. I was just wondering if others were using using this method and how strong they were mixing it. The thing comes with a bag of soluable miracle grow powder that half fills the container. I am using liquid fish fertilizer in it. If I mix it in a pitcher for use directly to my trees I usually put about 1 cap full per gallon of water. I have about 15 trees to feed. Small collection so it dont take long. Most of them are pre bonsai and still in nersury containers. There is no more time released fertilizer in the soil mixtures so I am not worried about double feeding. I just dont know how potent the miracle grow thing mixes the fertilizer to know how much to add.
Thanks
