Ficus Transplant/Cutting
Today I saw a great potential bonsai growing in the gutter of a garage. Being inpatient, I pulled the ficus (large leaf fig) out of the gutter and covered myself with dirt from the gutter. No problem with that but to my horror I broke the main tap root off and now there are only a few hair like roots which are still attached.
The plant is about 15cm tall with a base around 3cm. What should I do? Should I put it into a glass of water and wait for better root growth or should I plant it into a pot? Last edited by dodgyd : 29-Jul-2003 at 08:04 AM. |

DOD,
Some cool urban collecting trip you went on , eh? Most ficus I have run accross are really good root producers. My vote would be to put it in an good well draining soil in a suitable size pot, keep it as warm and moist as possible and pray. Good luck!

I always keep an eye out for potential bonsai material in the urban environment. Especially in industrial estates where no one pays any attention to their gardens / patches of dirt.
I guess I will take it out of the glass of water and put it into a pot. Thanks for the advice. |
