Diatomaceous earth

Is straight Diatomaceous earth sold a pool filtering material an acceptable component of a soil mix?

Works great as a slug & snail killer, spread around your benches. To them it is like walking on broken glass.

I understood the question to mean "in it's powder form" and was not aware that it was available in pebble form as well.
