Question Chinese Elm Repotting.

Hello everyone !
Could anyone let me know about the exact month that i could repot my elm ?
I would also like to know wich zone Greece belongs to.
The temperatures here range from 5 degrees Celcius during winter to about 39 degrees celcius in the summer.

Much obliged.

Fanis, if I am not mistaken, Greece has a "Mediteranean Climate", much like California here in the US. John Naka, who lived in Southern California, recommends February - May or September - October for repotting or transplanting Elms. This corresponds to what I would have guessed.

Hi Fanis,
I will leave it to others to suggest repotting times for Greek climates.

If you want to know your USDA zone, you can click on the link in the panel to the left. (next to where it says 8b UK in my profile panel)

You should be able to browse to a map of Europe, you should be able to get some idea from that.

Regards,

TB

Hi there Treebeard and thanks for your suggestion.
As usually Greece is left out of the map since it is located at the southeastern end of Europe but i believe iam a full "10".
Anyway your idea was good as always.

Thanks alot mate !

I'd like to have a suggestion from a person in southern Italy or Spain since our climate is pretty much the same.
Grazie !, Gracias!

fkokkas,
Sounds real nice there Zone, 10 eh, Lots of blue ocean and olives and feta cheese. Oooo hungry...

Exact month to repot elm. O if it were so simple as to have exact dates for these things. There are six different types of elms in my yard and they all bud out at different times.

Just watch your tree. The moment the buds begin to swell is the best time. Forget the calandar, listen to the trees...

i live in italy , and this is my opinion: if your plant did loose leaves during winter , you should repot in late february , and can also do some root-pruning.
if your plant didnt loose leaves (it happens often if its been a hot winter) i suggest you wait til the end of summer , and the beginning of cold winds; but in this case i would pay attention to the roots and try not to damage them too much, this is the time of year they start harvesting nutriens in the deep core.

ciao

Hi Fanis,
I live in a climate pretty much like yours, and my advice is:
Forget the calendar, listen to the trees...and to Bonsainut.
