There is info in the ***FAQ*** under Fertilizing and you can also try searching here under Fish emulsion, in particular bonsaial's post titled, ...My Backyard Stinks.

Searches work very well here and are now extremely fast.

Regards,

Matt

A word or two about bone meal. While a lot of people include bone meal in their potting mix, there is a reason for this. Bone meal is rather skewed towards the P,K values of the N,P,K scale. It is good for repotting plants and giving the roots a good start. It does not fullfill all the requirements of a balanced fertilizer though. Balanced fertilizers would contain values such as 10-10-10, or something like this. Blood meal is another unbalanced fertilizer that is good for bonsai. This stuff can be bought at most mass hardware stores and nurserys. You can mix the bone meal and blood meal together 50/50 with some water with some fish emulsion in it. Let it sit in a open container for about two weeks to ferment a little and get thick. When the moisture has gone away enough to plop out on a board covered with foil, pat out about 1/2 thick and score lines in it about 1 inch square and set in the sun. When dry snap apart and you have your own organic fertilizer cakes to put on your bonsai.

Nice! This far i have only used liquid 4:4:4 fertilizer. Propably i will try to make my own cakes and try them out on some of my trees. Thanks!
