Update: Monday, Nov 8, 2004
The finalists in the 2004 bonsaiTALK Styling contest can be found in this thread http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthread.php?t=9005 Congratulations to the finalists and thanks to all those who helped in the judging ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: Monday, Nov 1, 2004 Finished styling pics in the bonsaiTALK Styling Contest were due by midnight October 31st. We had just a few default by missing the deadline, leaving thirty-five qualified entries! HOW TO VOTE: Vote on the entries in the bonsaiTALK Gallery, using the standard rating system. --- CLICK BELOW TO --- >>>>>VOTE<<<<<< POLL RULES: Voting is open to registered members of the bonsaiTALK forum, including the artists themselves. Votes will be made and tallied in public using our Gallery voting system. 1. Please vote on as many of the entries as you reasonably can. There are two pages of entries, 35 in total. When you click on a thumbnail image, The blue NEXT and PREVIOUS buttons above each detail photo will speed your movement through the various entries as you review and vote. If you don't have a comment, you may use the quick ranking bubbles immediately beneath each photo to vote. If you do have a comment, just scroll to the very bottom of the page and enter the comment, put your score in the bubbles immediately above that comment and press Submit Post. 2. REVIEW: Our recommendation is that you review all the entries first and then make your selection of the top candidates. You may also wish to follow the link back to the styling thread and give consideration to the material and the skill of its treatment. There is a Slide Show link between the Next and Previous buttons that you can reach by clicking any thumbnail. Images are shown in random order by default. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy the show. 3. SCORING: You may vote/comment only once per tree. Give your highest scores to only your top picks. If you give too many tens it will make it harder to distinguish between good and excellent entries. 4. COMMENTS: You may write a short comment an entry and offer critique, compliment or encouragement if you wish. However, please be brief and confine your remark to the bonsai subject, raw material or work performed. Don't ask questions until after the voting ends. It's too disruptive of the process. Please don't comment on other comments at this time. NOTE: Comments that are disrespectful of the artist, other voter's scoring or the contest in general may disqualify your votes 5. ELIGIBILITY TO VOTE: Artists may vote in the contest. Artists may vote for their own trees, but please don't comment or answer questions about your own trees until the voting period ends. Judges, who are really bummed about not being able to enter the contest themselves, may vote too. Since the votes are public, this should not be a problem. Judges may choose to disqualify voters whose registrations were made very recently and without any other participation in the forum if there is sufficient concern on the part of the voting panel that there has been some type of tampering. IP and email addresses are logged. 6. VOTING PERIOD: Voting begins at November 1 and ends Sunday November 7, 2004 at midnight, Pacific Time. After the voting period ends, the top 5 entrants (determined by the five highest average scores in this popular vote) will advance to Finalist status. 7. QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CONTEST: Any questions on the voting or the judging should be posted in the Contest thread (here) or by contacting a Moderator. I am quite excited to see all the finished pics and to watch the judging process! Good luck to all. Will Last edited by TreeBay : 8-Nov-2004 at 04:40 AM. Reason: Popular voting completed |

The contest is heating up as the final entries are coming in. There are still several members that have not posted their final pics that I am eager to see. Glad to see a great turnout on this contest.

The trunk on my tree took exception to a rather sharp bend I tried to intruduce. I'm not certain it will survive this so I will not be submitting a finished picture.
Regards, Chris.

Poots, you are okay. Or at least your cat is:
By definition, there is no such thing as 12:00 AM / PM; it's Midnight, and Noon or Midday. http://www.astronomy.net/articles/13/ TreeBeard, Very honorable. I guess that's why you guys wear white and slacks and play golf, tennis, badminton, and cricket while we battle it out in helmets and shoulderpads. Wait a minute! I've heard your football fans are rowdier than the players! Regards, Matt

I will post a picture, after the contest is all done and dusted.
----------------- The voting system would appear to be giving misleading averages... One single vote of 10 gives an average of 10 from a total point count of 10 Two votes of 9 give an average of 9 from a total point count of 18 If the rule Quote:

Chris, it is not the five highest average scores per person, instead all the scores for a person will be added up and then divided by the number of votes to achive an average. Then the five highest averages will advance. So 5 5's 3 10's and 2 3's would be an average of 6.1, while 3 10's 2 6's 1 1 and 9 4's would be an average of 5.26.
